Where
Were You? Issue # 1 October 26
Hi Fellow Hockey Fans;
It seems like just yesterday we were cheering at the 9-4 win over Alaska
in the playoffs. Now are back for another action packed season. The
Booster Club had a great season last year and we have already started
this year with a bang.
The Booster Club participated in the 24 Hr Relay for the kids in June,
helping to raise enough money to send 2 children to Easter Seals Camp
Shawnigan. Our goal is to send 5 kids next year.
In order for a Booster Club to support the team and make the donations
to charity they must fundraise. In September, 6 Booster Club members
washed cars at the Canadian Tire in Langford. This was a successful
event for the Booster Club and will hopefully be able to more once the
nice weather returns.
Our Annual General was held in July, where elections were held and new
positions appointed. The following is the list of position and those
persons filling those positions:
President: Jenny Holmwood
Vice-President: Dan Olivier
Treasurer: Charlene Underwood
Secretary: Stefan Cerovec
Event Coordinator: Pam Marshall
Communications: Ted Wolters
Promotions: Dan Olivier
With our new positions and duties assigned we could now move forward
and start planning for the successful season ahead.
With the money raised at the Car Wash the Booster Club put together
gift bags for the starting players of the 2007/08 season. These bags
contained items that would help them become more acquainted with Victoria,
as well as to help with packing for the road trips i.e.: travel toiletries
and as usual home made cookies. As the bags were being handed out one
player asked “Are there cookies in them like last year?”
Other comments heard were”This is great I haven’t even packed
yet”.
The Booster Club wanted to show our team how much we appreciated everything
they do so we decided to plan a road trip to cheer them on at the season
opener in Boise, Idaho. A group of 7 members left on Thursday night,
drive through the night, arriving in Boise early Friday afternoon. They
were the first people through the doors of Qwest arena. Being a small
group of fans cheering on the opposing team, at the Kelly Cup champions
Home Opener, was a little intimidating. You could definitely hear their
cheers as the Salmon Kings won in Overtime. Next season will you join
us?
Part of the Mission of the Booster Club is to raise funds for local
charities. In order to distribute the money this season we have come
up with a promotion called “Goals that Give”. For every
goal the Salmon Kings score $10 will be donated to a local charity.
Each player has been randomly matched to a local charity. Their goals
will be tabulated and the money donated.
Go Kings Go!!
